Hey everyone! I don’t normally post on Sunday’s but today is a special exception. I wanted to use every outlet I had to share a very unique way of raising money for Habitat For Humanity Canada. Now, I don’t live in Canada, and I usually post about wonderful crafty, artistic things. One of the designers I work for is “HabiCaching” with her family next weekend! If you don’t know much about Habitat For Humanity here is a quick summary:
Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste Marie and Area has been busy building homes and building hope since 2004. Lives have been changed, families are thriving, and the support of our community continues to inspire us. The work that we do – offering a hand up to affordable home ownership and breaking the cycle of poverty is import, and continues to have a positive impact in our community. – Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste Marie
I personally think Habitat For Humanity sounds like a wonderful organization. I’m incredibly excited to hear how this weekend goes for their family and for the community as a whole! If anyone is interested in in donating to their team or would just like some more information, check out their team site (photo is linked):
Welcome back to “This Scrapper’s Got Talent Saturday”! This week’s challenge was to use everything in the provided mini-kit, and only the mini-kit, to create a layout that included plenty of white space. To me, that’s a double challenge! Well you know what? Challenge accepted! Here’s what the mini kit looks like (it includes 4 papers and 8 elements):
Now, I don’t fish, my kids don’t fish, no one that I know fishes. What does one do in this situation? Use pictures of geese, ducks and a body of water obviously! Hey, they both have water themes, if you read last weeks post, you know I tend to wander close to the lines of rules. It should be no surprise then that I didn’t even attempt to incorporate fishing pictures! Without further ado, here is my layout:
“Duck Pond” Template: Sample Pack 30 by ChrissyW Digital Kit: Gone Fishing TSGT Mini by Crescent Moon Designs
I think I created a successful layout this week! There are eliminations this week so I’ll admit I’m a bit nervous. The other wonderful ladies I’m competing against created fantastic layouts too! All of the “This Scrapper’s Got Talent” layouts can be found at Stuff To Scrap’s Gallery page so go take a look! Hope you enjoyed today’s post and as always…
It’s time for “Friday Faves” and today’s favorites are… two pictures I took the other day! I just had to share our superhero/princes play time, these pictures might give you an idea as to why I was so over the moon to get to play with the “Super Kid” kit by Inspiredbydominic Designs! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check the posts here, here and see the preview here if you’re interested! On with the fun pictures!
First up we have a fun Prince/Knight/Superhero! Oh what this kids come up with!
Second, we have Superhero Jr!
There you have it folks! A quick peek into the fun we’ve been having this week (and yes my kids sometimes wear pajamas during the day… it’s less laundry! I’m saving the planet one less load at a time!) Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow, I get to share my “This Scrapper’s Got Talent” layout with you and boy, this week was indeed a challenge! As always…
Welcome back! It’s “New Release Thursday” and I have a huge kit to share as well as a template set and sale! Remember, the images are linked to the products. Let’s jump in!
The first thing I want to share is a HUGE kit from Inspiredbydominic Designs over at Scrapbook Bytes. You must check out the superhero themed kit “Super Kid”, I have two young boys and this kit is just perfect for all the superhero play I get to capture with my camera! If you read Monday’s or Tuesday’s posts, you can see two of the layouts I created! Well folk, here’s the full preview of this kit (they are also available separately) plus some Photoshop styles if you’re so inclined:
Next up is a new template set from M&M Designs that will be on sale when it releases tomorrow July 28th!
Lastly, I wanted to let you know about the 40% off sale going on over at ChrissyW Digital’s store at TheDigiChick! It’s not one or two kits… it’s her ENTIRE store! The sale ends June 30th so go grab what you like now before the sale ends!
It’s a bit quiet this week in the new releases category but next week will be full with new releases, July freebies and Build-A-Kit’s (BAK’s) and more then likely a few fun announcements! Make sure to check back tomorrow for “Friday Fave’s”! As always…
It’s Project Life Wednesday and I’m excited to show you the PAPER (yes, paper) mini album I’m working on. I received my Dear Lizzy Mini Kit from HSN last Saturday and absolutely loved it! There was one problem though, the patterns are so girly that I knew I’d never be able to use them with pictures of my boys… that means this kits mine kids! After realizing I would get to use this mini for anything I wanted, I had no idea what I wanted to put in it! I was already pondering what to use the kit for since I wanted to post about it and inspiration struck! I decided to create an album with pictures showing off Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Every time we were in the Magic Kingdom, I’d inevitably take at least three or four pictures of the castle. I’m not sure what it’s draw is (maybe it’s the architecture, the details, or just that it’s in the center of everything) but the Imagineers knew what they were doing when they designed that icon!
I’m not going to do a full walk through of my steps but I wanted to share some of the pictures. As my album is a work in progress, some pages won’t be complete when I share them but as I work on things, I want to share them. You’ll get a look at the process I use, the products I’m using (which I do not get any compensation for using), and the pictures I think capture my favorite parts of Cinderella’s Castle. In an effort to keep from overloading you with too many pictures, I’ve created numbered collages. First is a collage of my photo printing/cutting and applying the title on the page:
Here’s a look at my title page and page one:
Here are some close ups with products listed:
Remember, I’ll be posting about this and other Project Life related projects Wednesdays so don’t forget to stop by if you found this interesting! I love when you share YOUR projects with us too so feel free to leave us a link to your Project Life (or Project Life style) projects in the comments! As always…
Welcome to “Template Tuesday” and the post that almost didn’t happen! You see, Photoshop Elements 11 and I had a little disagreement last night, it decided that the halftone filter wasn’t going to work properly anymore… after working just fine since the install. Why you ask? I have no idea… This put a kink into my plans for “Template Tuesday”. I’d planned to show you how to halftone pictures to use in superhero themed layouts like the one from yesterday’s post. I started out with this template (for Jessica Sprague’s 7 Days in June Challenges. Unfortunately, the links for this challenge are only good for one day so head over there and pick up today’s freebie and join the challenge!):
I rotated the template (this seems to be a new trend for me…), added my papers, pictures and elements to come up with this layout:
“My Hero”Template: iToons by Liv.e Designs
Kit: Super Kid by Inspiredbydominic Designs (Releases 6/27/13)
You can’t see it very well, but I used a halftone overlay on the pictures. I don’t think these photos show the effect as nicely as the ones in yesterday’s layout. Thanks Photoshop Elements, thanks. In yesterday’s layout, I used the halftone filter (Filter-> Sketch-> Halftone pattern). This layout I copied all of my photos into a grayscale page (Mode-> Grayscale) to use the halftone pattern (does anyone know why I can’t apply the pattern anymore to a color photo?!). This morning, I really was grumpy because I DID NOT like how these photos turned out. Guess where I went… if you said Google you win! Google was only so helpful. I found many techniques for halftoning in Photoshop but information on Photoshop Elements was pretty limited. What I did find was this great gem on Draconianrain’s Blog, of how to halftone a drawing, that helped me notice I had another filter option! The Halftone color! (Filter-> Pixelate-> Color Halftone) It gave me a better overlay to work with but I will have to play around with the settings some more! Do you want to see how I did it with a picture? Here you go, just click a picture to make it bigger if you can’t see all the details:
Step 1: Duplicate layer. I always, always try to remember to do this as it’s a lot easier to scrap edits and start over!
Step 2: Filter-> Pixelate-> Color Halftone
Step 3: Change your settings. I used the settings pictured. The smaller the number, the smaller the “dots”.
Step 4: Opacity and blending mode options. I ended up duplicating my background again and setting the blend mode to Soft light to up the contrast:
The top layer that has the Color Halftone filter is set to Overlay blend mode:
And you know what? While looking at this picture I realized why I was having issues with my half tone pattern. Do you see the two black boxes on the bottom left? They are the foreground and background color. They shouldn’t both be black if I want to see a pattern! Sigh, at least I figured out what I was doing wrong, and I found another way to create a halftone look! So, if you want to do it the easy way… follow above steps until you get to choosing Color Halftone filter. Use Filter-> Sketch-> Halftone Pattern
Take a look at those little boxes on the bottom left… One’s now black (the colors the dots will be) and the other one is white (what the background color will be). I then set the top (Halftone Pattern layer) to Overlay blend mode. I duplicated the background layer again and set it to Screen blend and 50% opacity.
Is anyone still with me? Well that’s three ways to create a halftone effect on your pictures (or on anything really!)… I hope your eyes didn’t glaze over too much! If you have any questions, leave me a comment or as I said, if there’s anything you are interested in “seeing how it’s done” I’ll do my best to lay out a how-to on a “Template Tuesday” for you! As always…
Welcome to Miscellaneous Monday! Now, re-read that in your best announcers voice… makes a great introduction right? I’m sharing one of the funnest scrapbook kits I’ve seen recently! It was made by one of the fabulous designers I create for and the only people who have seen this kit so far is our team. You, lovely reader, get to see what’s in it before anyone else! Also, I get to share a new template release by another one of my designers! Have you noticed all the exclamation marks? I’m really excited to share today’s layout with you! Okay, before I burst, let’s get to it!
Can you guess the theme? I have two little boys who love superheros so this kit is bound to get pulled out often! Want to see the page I made this awesome kit? Really… Are you sure? Okay, here it is:
Template: Project Life Journal Card V6 by M&M Designs
Kit: Super Kid by Inspiredbydominic Designs
Anyone else excited to use this kit now? Remember, you saw it in action here first! Go by Inspiredbydominic’s Facebook page and leave her some love on her sneak peek picture!
I also want to remind you that M&M Designs is holding a “Summer Guest CT Call” So if you’re interested in working with some great templates (both pocket page and traditional) head over to her blog or Facebook post for details on how to submit an application!
Guess who got their Dear Lizzy Project Life mini kit this weekend! That’s right folks, I did! I love all the soft, pastel colors but I have no idea what to use it for… I put cards into the mini album though. Look for pictures on Project Life Wednesday! Here’s a look at the promotional picture from Becky Higgins’ blog:
Lastly, don’t forget tomorrow is Template Tuesday! If anyone has any question or requests (on anything paper or digital scrapbook related, not just about templates) that I might be able to help with, leave me a comment and I will work them into my Tuesday posts!
I think that about wraps up Miscellaneous Monday for this week! As always…
Welcome! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! For the next five weeks or so, I’m going to be using Saturday’s to share a quick post about a fun competition I’m participation in at Stuff To Scrap Forum. Without further ado, welcome to “This Scrapper’s Got Talent (TSGT) Saturday”! Cue audience applause and lift the curtain!
This week’s challenge was to use the provided template and scrap “A Day In The Life”. Sounds simple right? Well, if you didn’t know, I’ve been on vacation for about a month, in Disney World. I don’t have many photos of my “typical day” which normally consists of cleaning up after kids, feeding kids and playing with kids. What I did have a lot of photos of was our trip to Disney. As I pondered my layout I realized the instructions didn’t say a typical day at home or a typical day from a certain month, so I figured it would be within the rules to scrap a typical day I had in May (which just so happened to be when we were in Disney). As there are no eleminations this week, I figured if I had broken bent the rules too far, I wasn’t in danger of being eliminated from the competition! The template I used was provided for us by Ponytails Designs:
The kit I ended up using the Summer Play Bundle by Inspiredbydominic Designs, but you can also pick it up in individual sets (I announced in this weeks Miscellaneous Monday that I’m now on Inspiredbydominic’s Creative Team).
This is the layout I came up with. If it looks different from the template it’s because I rotated it upside down!
I grabbed some pictures from a day that I really enjoyed and fit them into my template. The photos aren’t in any certain order. The top left was from our character breakfast that day, the top center is from the afternoon when we had pictures taken with Princess Tiana and Prince Navine, next to that is my oldest showing off his princess kiss. The middle row has a map of Fort Wilderness Campground where we stayed, my picture and user name and on the right is a picture from the new Fantasy Land area. It’s all circus themed and this is the new “Meet and Greet” area for Minnie, Daisy, Donald and Goofy. I will have to share some of those pictures because this area was incredibly detailed (even for Disney in my opinion)! The bottom row on the left has my title card, journal card and then the smaller cards show Tinkerbell on her Electric Light Parade float and the fireworks in the Magic Kingdom. Wow that’s a lot to fit into one layout! Our days weren’t always this full but this was one of the last days we were there so we were hitting up all the favorite things one last time before leaving. I had so much fun and I can’t wait to see what everyone else creates!
Each Saturday I’m going to share my layout for the week’s challenge. If you’d like to follow along, you can subscribe by email at the top of the page, follow me on Facebook or Twitter, and you can check out the Stuff to Scrap forum! There’s even an area where you can play along with us if you’d like!
Is anyone else participating or playing along? If you are, leave us a link where we can check out your layouts! If you’re not, consider playing along and stretch your creative muscles (you don’t need to complete each week)! As always…
It’s nice to see everyone here today! I’m glad your back for “Friday Faves”, today I’m sharing some of my favorite designers! Now, I’ve tried to make sure it’s not a secret that I’m on Creative Teams for some wonderful designers. Obviously I love their products, but today I’m purposely NOT including them in my Friday Faves list! What I am trying to include are designers of different styles and products that might interest you. I don’t get any kind of compensation from any of the designers I’m listing today and these opinions are completely mine! So, if you’re ready, let jump on in!
I have so many favorite designers so it was difficult to narrow it down to just a few designers! In no particular order, here are some of my favorite designers:
I love their kits so much, the quality is spot on which is incredibly important to me. When I scrap, I normally use more “realistic” elements. I started scrapping in paper so my tastes typically run along those lines. The other thing that I really enjoy about Bella Gypsy is their wide variety of kit themes! Need a summer kit? They have one:
Need a kit to scrap the men in your life? They’ve got that too!
Love the “You Only Live Once” idea? They have a kit for that!
Can you believe these kits? I love how they create elements for “traditional” scrap pages as well as journal cards for those of us who scrap in the pocket page style! Awesome!
Now, Sahlin Studio creates wonderful digital kits, the quality is great and the variety is amazing but, can I tell you how much I love their “Project Mouse” line of products?! My family loves visiting Disney World and “Project Mouse” is all about Disney and every aspect of your trip! Take a look at some of the “Project Mouse” kits:
Can you believe the variety? That’s only three of the many bundles they have! If you have any Disney pictures at all, THESE are the kits you want to use! I just can’t tell you how much I love these products!
Scrapping with Liz:
Scrapping with Liz makes some of my favorite templates! Her templates have clean lines, and appealing layouts. There are pocket page/week in review style as well as more “traditional” style templates. When I look at one of her templates I smile because I know that regardless of the kit I choose to use, my layout will end up looking fantastic! Here are a few of the different styles of templates she creates:
Do you see a pattern to my choices yet? Great quality and flexible kits/templates! Scrapping with Liz embodies those traits! You will probably see me use her templates many, many times with my layouts!
I think you can tell by now why I would love this designer (hint: quality and variety!) but guess what this designer also creates? Commercial Use (CU) products! That’s the type of things you buy to use in making your own kits! Take a look at her Personal Use (PU) kits first:
Now, take a look at a few Commercial Use (CU) products Mommyish has in her store:
If you are interested in designing at all, you really need to check out Mommyish’s store! You really will be amazed, I promise!
I cheated a little bit here. My last designer is actually a set of wonderful designers! These are the designers behind Becky Higgins’ Project Life: Lori Whitlock, American Craft, Keri Bradford, Lili Niclass, Tiffani Smith, Liz Tamanaha, Heather Bailey, Nisa Fiin, Elise Joy Blaha Cripe, and Kimberly Church. I’m not going to share every single Project Life here but I did want to share three of may favorites, two of which I actually picked up at Michael’s the other day! The pictures are linked to the digital kits on AC Digitals but you can also find the paper versions on Amazon (Honey, Kraft, Midnight).
I hope that you enjoyed this long comprehensive list of designers who’s products I love to work with! If there’s a designer who you’ve never heard of, why don’t you go check out their website or store! I shared just a small amount of what each of these designers have to offer! And as always…
It’s nice to see everyone again! Today is “New Release Thursday” and I have a few fun things to share with you today! I’ve got new releases from ChrissyW Digital and Scraps by Missy with layouts to show you and a small bit about a new release from M&M Designs! I also have a little something at the end to share so stick around!
First up are two releases from ChrissyW Digital, “Sample Pack 11” and “To The Left“. Both sets come in 12″x12″ and 8.5″x11” sizes and are on sale for 30% off through Sunday! This is a preview of “Sample Pack 11” and a layout I made with it:
“Disney Or Bust”
Template: Sample Pack 11 by ChrissyW Digital
Kit: “Are We There Yet” by Scraps by Missy (Releases 6/21)
I haven’t made a layout with this set yet but if you check out her Facebook page or the product description, you will see plenty of wonderful inspiration there! I’m sure I will be using one of these in the near future though, I really like the one with all the circles!
Wait? Does that kit look familiar? Why yes, I used it on the layout above! Scroll back and check it out, I’ll wait… isn’t that an awesome kit? It worked perfectly to scrap my picture of the entrance to Disney’s Magic Kingdom. It was such a rainy day when we arrived, and it didn’t stop raining for three days! Try telling two little kids that they have to wait even longer to see Mickey Mouse, we almost had a mutiny on our hands!
The last release, “Paper Crazy V3” comes from M&M Designs. As usual, you get four templates in this set and it’s only $4! I don’t have a layout for this one either (since I’m on her Project Life team) but there are plenty of inspirational pictures up on her Facebook Page! Take a look:
That’s it for my digital new releases for today but if anyone’s still around, I wanted to share this “new release” picture with you:
I know this isn’t the best picture (inside, phone picture, etc) but I wanted to share some of the new Project Life Products I came home with yesterday! Want the run down of everything in the picture? What I picked up:
Project Life (check their website for where to order/stores)
Kraft Core Honey Core Kraft Album (blue/green) Honey Album (multicolored chevron) Big Variety Pack Photo Protectors Grid 3×4 cards Grid 4×6 cards
Everything was picked up from my local Michael’s Craft Store (and of course coupons were used, they haven’t excluded Project Life… yet). These products aren’t even on their website yet! I have to admit, when I called them in the morning, the person I spoke with had no idea what Project Life was or if they had it in stock. So when I entered the store, I didn’t expect to find any products out yet… Lo and behold, I found this about five aisles down in the Scrapbooking section:
As you can see, they only have four core kits here right now (Honey, Midnight, Cinnamon, and Kraft) but I’m excited to be able to get my page protectors locally now! Anyway, I wanted to share my excitement with you! Keep watch here because I think some of the products I picked up will make an appearance here next Wednesday for “Project Life Wednesday”! I hope you enjoyed today’s post and as always…
