Friday Faves – July 5, 2013

Hey everyone! It’s Friday! So what things am I going to share with you today? Well, first off, let me say, I’m late writing this post today because I was busy playing with my littlest bug! The kids are visiting with family for most of the next few days but my little guy is too small to play in the ocean so he’s back home for awhile today. My point is that I usually don’t have a great deal of free time but when I do, I enjoy scrapbooking (I’m pretty sure that’s not a surprise to any of you by this point). With so little time and such a passion for scrapbooking, what does one use to capture and record all those wonderful memories?

I bet you know where I’m going with this! Yes, Project Life and all the other pocket page style scrapbook products out there! As you know, I also love to work both digitally and physically with paper, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone when I tell you that I have almost all of the “official” Project Life kits digitally and five (yes, FIVE) paper Project Life core kits! Why? Well, partly because I love the designs and I have a scrapbook hoarder personality! Mostly though it’s because I love the idea that if I’m pressed for time, I can drop my photos, a few cards and a little writing onto a page and it looks wonderful! Sometimes just doing that looks better then when I keep playing around with a page for days!

I really love that this way of scrapbooking has taken off. With any great idea you run into true copy cats but I think that many designers (both paper and digital) have really expanded on this concept and given us so many options! I’ve also got some SN@P products in my paper stash, I have other designers’ P365/Journal Card products in my digital files, and I’m excited to use it all! So today’s post is all about how much I love these products! Did you get through all that text? Okay, lets look at some fun pictures!

Here is a picture of my current “official” Project Life stash:

Albums, pocket pages and Project Life Core Kits
How I store my Project Life Kits

And there’s a picture of some of my SN@P products, these are for my oldest son’s Disney album that I hope to work on with him this summer:

SN@P! album and products

Lastly, here are some of my favorite digital products I like to use with my Project Life albums, I’m not including all of the “official” Project Life kits (which you can find at AC Digitals) because I really want to share some of the OTHER great products I use to supplement my “official” stash:

I’m pretty sure you knew I’d include M&M Designs’ Project Life Journal Card line! Since I’m on her Creative Team, I’m lucky enough to get to work with these great templates, this one was just released today! Take a look at the layout on the top right, that’s the one I made using this template and Inspiredbydominic’s “A New Day” kit and Corky V1 styles:

Project Life V7 by M&M Designs

Another product that I love, and a designer who’s team I’m not on, is Scrapping with Liz’s “Time Table Templates”. They are set up to record “Day in the Life” layouts but are flexible enough to be used for weekly layouts too:

Time Table Templates by Scrapping with Liz

I also love how some designers are creating 4″x6″ templates. It’s nice to have a template for one of my pictures pockets especially if I want to add multiple pictures to that spot. Scrapping with Liz also has some 4″x6″ templates but the ones I just saw from ChrissyW Digital (who’s team I’m also on) really gets me excited!

So, in honor of today’s Friday Fave, I’m going to enjoy my day, and most likely the weekend, working on my Project Life pages! I’ll make sure to share them with you all next week! Enjoy your weekend dear readers and as always…

Project Life Wednesday – July 3, 2013

Welcome to “Project Life Wednesday”, today I’m sharing part two of my new Project Life Dear Lizzy Mini Album! If you missed part one you can see it here. Onward! Today I worked on a page that incorporates using one photo over many spots. I saw this post and new I had to do something similar in my mini album. I love this idea so much I’m going to be using it in my large album for our Disney trip! Do you want to see my pages?

First Double Spread
New page – Right side

This week I decided to keep my focus on the picture so I didn’t add any embellishments… yet, I really have a hard time not using Thickers and extra elements! I decided to only round the outer corners of the large picture to keep it looking like one large photo instead of two 4″x6″ photos. Here are some highlights:

I had a good time working on this, there’s no pressure to keep up to date as the album focuses on one object, not a chronological documentation! I can’t tell you how fun it is to really have no rules! One last thing, tomorrow is “New Release Thursday” so come back and check what’s new tomorrow, but if you need your digital fix right now, check out this post from Monday that’s full of sales, freebies and more! As always…

Project Life Wednesday – June 26, 2013

It’s Project Life Wednesday and I’m excited to show you the PAPER (yes, paper) mini album I’m working on. I received my Dear Lizzy Mini Kit from HSN last Saturday and absolutely loved it! There was one problem though, the patterns are so girly that I knew I’d never be able to use them with pictures of my boys… that means this kits mine kids! After realizing I would get to use this mini for anything I wanted, I had no idea what I wanted to put in it! I was already pondering what to use the kit for since I wanted to post about it and inspiration struck! I decided to create an album with pictures showing off Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. Every time we were in the Magic Kingdom, I’d inevitably take at least three or four pictures of the castle. I’m not sure what it’s draw is (maybe it’s the architecture, the details, or just that it’s in the center of everything) but the Imagineers knew what they were doing when they designed that icon!

I’m not going to do a full walk through of my steps but I wanted to share some of the pictures. As my album is a work in progress, some pages won’t be complete when I share them but as I work on things, I want to share them. You’ll get a look at the process I use, the products I’m using (which I do not get any compensation for using), and the pictures I think capture my favorite parts of Cinderella’s Castle. In an effort to keep from overloading you with too many pictures, I’ve created numbered collages. First is a collage of my photo printing/cutting and applying the title on the page:

Here’s a look at my title page and page one:

Here are some close ups with products listed:

Remember, I’ll be posting about this and other Project Life related projects Wednesdays so don’t forget to stop by if you found this interesting! I love when you share YOUR projects with us too so feel free to leave us a link to your Project Life (or Project Life style) projects in the comments! As always…

Miscellaneous Monday – June 24, 2013

Welcome to Miscellaneous Monday! Now, re-read that in your best announcers voice… makes a great introduction right? I’m sharing one of the funnest scrapbook kits I’ve seen recently! It was made by one of the fabulous designers I create for and the only people who have seen this kit so far is our team. You, lovely reader, get to see what’s in it before anyone else! Also, I get to share a new template release by another one of my designers! Have you noticed all the exclamation marks? I’m really excited to share today’s layout with you! Okay, before I burst, let’s get to it!

First, there is a new template releasing from M&M Designs at her Gotta Pixel Store. Today’s release is another pocket page style template “Project Life Journal Card V6“. As always, you can check out her gallery at Gotta Pixel or on Facebook for inspiration!

Friday Faves- June 21, 2013

It’s nice to see everyone here today! I’m glad your back for “Friday Faves”, today I’m sharing some of my favorite designers! Now, I’ve tried to make sure it’s not a secret that I’m on Creative Teams for some wonderful designers. Obviously I love their products, but today I’m purposely NOT including them in my Friday Faves list! What I am trying to include are designers of different styles and products that might interest you. I don’t get any kind of compensation from any of the designers I’m listing today and these opinions are completely mine! So, if you’re ready, let jump on in!

I have so many favorite designers so it was difficult to narrow it down to just a few designers! In no particular order, here are some of my favorite designers:

Bella Gypsy:
I love their kits so much, the quality is spot on which is incredibly important to me. When I scrap, I normally use more “realistic” elements. I started scrapping in paper so my tastes typically run along those lines. The other thing that I really enjoy about Bella Gypsy is their wide variety of kit themes! Need a summer kit? They have one:

Hello Summer Collection by Bella Gypsy

Need a kit to scrap the men in your life? They’ve got that too!

Glad You’re My Dad Collection by Bella Gypsy

Love the “You Only Live Once” idea? They have a kit for that!

YOLO Bundle

Can you believe these kits? I love how they create elements for “traditional” scrap pages as well as journal cards for those of us who scrap in the pocket page style! Awesome!

Sahlin Studio:
Now, Sahlin Studio creates wonderful digital kits, the quality is great and the variety is amazing but, can I tell you how much I love their “Project Mouse” line of products?! My family loves visiting Disney World and “Project Mouse” is all about Disney and every aspect of your trip! Take a look at some of the “Project Mouse” kits:

Project Mouse Bundle no. 1
Project Mouse Bundle no. 3
Project Mouse (Princess Edition) Bundle

Can you believe the variety? That’s only three of the many bundles they have! If you have any Disney pictures at all, THESE are the kits you want to use! I just can’t tell you how much I love these products!

Scrapping with Liz:
Scrapping with Liz makes some of my favorite templates! Her templates have clean lines, and appealing layouts. There are pocket page/week in review style as well as more “traditional” style templates. When I look at one of her templates I smile because I know that regardless of the kit I choose to use, my layout will end up looking fantastic! Here are a few of the different styles of templates she creates:

Artsy Journal Templates 2
Great Fortune Awaits – The Templates
Weekly Project Templates 7
More Doubles – Templates

Do you see a pattern to my choices yet? Great quality and flexible kits/templates! Scrapping with Liz embodies those traits! You will probably see me use her templates many, many times with my layouts!

Mommyish:
I think you can tell by now why I would love this designer (hint: quality and variety!) but guess what this designer also creates? Commercial Use (CU) products! That’s the type of things you buy to use in making your own kits! Take a look at her Personal Use (PU) kits first:

Be Spring Already: Collection
Project: Live, Laugh, Love

Now, take a look at a few Commercial Use (CU) products Mommyish has in her store:

Oldies but Goodies
Back to School Bits

If you are interested in designing at all, you really need to check out Mommyish’s store! You really will be amazed, I promise!

I cheated a little bit here. My last designer is actually a set of wonderful designers! These are the designers behind Becky Higgins’ Project Life: Lori Whitlock, American Craft, Keri Bradford, Lili Niclass, Tiffani Smith, Liz Tamanaha, Heather Bailey, Nisa Fiin, Elise Joy Blaha Cripe, and Kimberly Church. I’m not going to share every single Project Life here but I did want to share three of may favorites, two of which I actually picked up at Michael’s the other day! The pictures are linked to the digital kits on AC Digitals but you can also find the paper versions on Amazon (Honey, Kraft, Midnight).

Honey Edition by Lori Whitlock
Project Life Kraft Edition by Tiffani Smith
Project Life Midnight Edition by Liz Tamanaha

I hope that you enjoyed this long comprehensive list of designers who’s products I love to work with! If there’s a designer who you’ve never heard of, why don’t you go check out their website or store! I shared just a small amount of what each of these designers have to offer! And as always…

Project Life Wednesday – June 19, 2013

Welcome to the new Project Life Wednesday! I’ve got some fun pictures to share with you today! I finally started Project Life this year after periodically considering the system since the beginning of 2012… no rash decisions here! When I first looked into the system, they only had physical paper products but now they have expanded into digital products as well. I’ve been scrapbooking on and off for years and have amassed a bit of a collection of paper and embellishments, I have a problem with paper. I love wandering though any store that sells paper. Crafts store? I’m there! Office supply store? Don’t come with me if you aren’t prepared to spend an hour there! A book store? I won’t be back until dinner time! So it might surprise you that I started my Project Life journey with digital kits!

The first kit I ever purchased was Amber Edition (which I believe is retiring soon!) from ACDigitals. After that I couldn’t stop! I now have almost all the digital core and mini editions! Then Becky Higgins had her HSN sale for the new paper Blush and Jade Editions. I now have both of those paper editions (plus I’m waiting on my first Mini Kit through HSN’s auto-ship!) so what’s a digital scrapper to do with paper products? Scrap with them of course! I decided to go through my old, physical photos and get them scrapped! What I love about Project Life is that it’s so flexible. Of course all of my old photos were NOT in a 4″x6″ format, that would be waaaay to easy! So I was glad I ordered the coordinating cardstocks for Blush and Jade in 3″x 4″ and 4″x6″. It made it so simple to crop and add my odd sized photos. Anyway, I’m done boring you with all my words, on to the pictures!

Here is my album, I used the Blush kit for this one since I loved all the pinks (and I have two boys so I really doubt I’d use many pink cards for their pictures). The page looked great without all of the “extras” but my reasoning for buying MORE paper products  was that I needed to use up my paper scrapbooking stash! Makes sense right?!

“My Life in Review” Title Page
Title Page close up

Please don’t ask me all of what I used, some of this stuff I’ve had for eight years (did I mention I have a problem with paper?!) So I know most of the alphas are from American Crafts and the washi tape I picked up at Michael’s but other then that, I have no idea!

Next is a page I really love, I ended up choosing to go with a blue scheme. The pictures are from when one of my cousin’s was born. He’s a boy so I thought blue was quite appropriate as well as matching some of the tones in the photos! I do know the camera sticker is a SN@P product! I do have a small obsession with alphas and Thickers!

“Family” page
Alphas on the picture

The last page I’m going to share in this post is one toward the end (when my pictures were standard 4″x”6″ size). This page doesn’t have much embellishments, I really wanted the photos to stand out! See what I mean about flexibility? Pages look great with a lot of embellishments, or with almost none!

“Euro Trip”

I did round all my corners because I like uniformity, and I enjoy making my life difficult!

Photo close up

I plan on sharing more from this album, and some of my digital pages, over the next few weeks. If you can’t wait that long, you can take a look at my Photobucket album! Along with this post here, I’ll be over on my Facebook Page sharing a little bit about myself. I was going to do this the other day in relation to being nominated for the Sunshine Award (you can see that post here) but I think it relates better to this post… and I might have totally forgotten about it the other day too! So head on over! As always…

Friday Faves – June 14, 2013

Hey! You’re back in time for Friday Faves! This week I’m sharing (in no particular order) five of my current favorite templates. I know that I shared a template with you on Tuesday for Template Tuesday but that was mostly as a how-to of my creative process, today I’m focusing on the templates but I will show you a layout I made with each one to give you some ideas for using each template.

Now, you know I am on a few Creative Teams, there is one template here from a designer I CT for but I didn’t choose it to promote my designer (this time at least!), I chose it because, well, it would be one of my current favorites even if someone else had designed it! Lets jump right in!

I have a special space in my design spot for Sahlin Studio products. If you hadn’t noticed, many of the photos in my layouts are from Disney World. I just got back from a month trip there! Needless to say, I have a TON of photos to scrap! Sahlin Studios has a whole line devoted to Disney called “Project Mouse” that’s absolutely to-die-for! This template has nothing to do with that line other then it was created by the same designer, I just wanted to share…

Anyway, this template was a freebie from April off the Sahlin Studios’ blog (it’s still avalible today but I can’t guarantee how long it will be there). I like that this template continues off the page. It was a challenge sometimes to place pictures and elements because of this though. It challenged me a bit and I appreciate that! One thing that some people might find challenging is the lack of shadows on the template. Sometimes I enjoy having shadows already done but sometimes I end up changing all the shadows anyway so without any shadows, I can start fresh! Here is a picture of the template and the layout I made with it:

April 2013 Blog Freebie from Sahlin Studio

“Magical Mouse House”
Template: April 2013 Blog Freebie by Sahlin Studios
Kit: Various kits were used, all by Sahlin Studios

Next on my list is Template Revisited 11 by Scrapping with Liz. This template is all circles. I do squares, do you know how long it took me to complete this layout? Almost the entire month, I did a little bit here and there. I love how it turned out but it was certainly a challenge! I ended up choosing some beach photos, the Scrap Orchard iNSD Techno Geek kit and Down by the Shore by Scraps by Missy to complete this layout. I really like the uniqueness of having a template filled with circle layers! Here’s the template and the layout I ended up making with it:

“Beach Bum”
Template: Template Revisited 11 by Scrapping with Liz
Kit: iNSD TechnoGeek by Scrap Orchard Designers
Kit: Down by the Shore by Scraps By Missy

The third template that I want to share is from ChrissyW Digital’s Sample Pack 8. I originally created this as a CT layout but I’m sharing it because of what I did with the template. This template has a collection of squares, typically they would be used to clip paper and small photos to. I decided to go a different route and combine some of the square spaces to hold one larger picture. This put a creative spin on the layout and it came out looking great:

“Princess Birthday Kisses”
Template: Sample Pack 8 by ChrissyW Digital
Kit: Summer Meadow by ChrissyW Digital

This next template is very popular and very basic but it’s flexibility is what I love. This is Template A from Becky Higgins’ Project Life. I see this template used everywhere but what makes layouts made with this standout is how people adapt and change it to meet their layout needs. In this layout I combined card slots to place a larger picture while keeping the overall lines of the template. It’s an easy way to make a template your own. Take a look at the template and the changes I made to use it for my layout:

“Fort Wilderness”
Template: Template A by Becky Higgins Project Life
Kit: Various kits from Sahlin Studios

This last template is the new June freebie template from Angie Kovacs called Just Journal. I love the square collage area in the center. I think I gravitated toward this template because of it’s funky yet simple feel. I really enjoy templates with clean lines and open space. This template has both of those qualities, I was even able to use a paper that had a large graphic and it actually shows in the layout, I sometimes find that hard to accomplish with the other templates I use. I used Polka Dot Pixels kit “School Day” with a photo from our Disney World trip last month. Even though I took a lot of pictures, I’m glad there’s a large variety, there always seems to be a picture to use with whatever kit I choose! This template and kit go so well together:

folder

“The World”

Kit: School Day by Polka Dot Pixels

I hope you enjoyed the selection of templates and some ideas on how to use them. Just remember, a template is a starting point, don’t forget you can change them up to suit your needs! If you use any of these templates, leave me a link so that I can see what you created!

Friday Faves – June 7, 2013

Welcome to my very first Friday Faves!

I’m glad you stopped by, each Friday I plan to share with you some of my favorite things. I thought it might be nice to take a day to round up a list of favorite layouts, kits, designers, websites and what-not. Sounds fun right?

Today I’m excited to share with you five of my digital layouts that I’ve made recently! I’d like you to not that these are not in a ranked order, it’s just a total of five layouts. Anyway, it seems like a lot of people I talk to scrap in either a “traditional” style or in the “pocket page” style. I don’t come across many who continue to do both. Maybe it’s just the people I talk to, but I still like making both “traditional” and “pocket” pages.

First up is one of the first Project Life pages I made this year. It’s not incredibly fancy, but it’s part of the set that really got me excited about photography and scrapbooking again! I’d been looking at Becky Higgins’ Project Life off and on for about a year before I finally jumped in and bought my first digital kit. I’ve been hooked ever since but it also brought me back to the “traditional” scrapbooking style both digitally and with paper. Because of all these factors, the first layout on my list is my Project Life page for week three of this year:

Project Life 2013, Week 3
Template and Clementine Kit by Becky Higgins Project Life
Elements from: Scissors from Mini Kit by Forever Joy, buttons from various designer kits

Next on my favorites list is a layout using the Clementine Kit by Becky Higgins Project Life but instead of using the kit in the “pocket” style, I used a “traditional” template for my layout. I just loved this picture, it shows my littlest with his stuffy cold face. The poor kid was so stuffed up that his nose was running constantly, he was sneezing almost continuously and his eyes were watering so much you’d have thought he was crying. All he wanted to do way lay on the couch with me and watch Curious George and you know what? That’s exactly what we did! This layout will always remind me of how pitiful he looked that day and I’m so glad I was able to capture those memories. Take a look at layout two:

“Tears & Sniffles”
Template: Template Revisited 8 by Scrapping with Liz
Kit: Clementine by Becky Higgins Project Life

Don’t laugh but this next layout also uses a Becky Higgins Project Life kit! This time it’s the Kraft kit that was released digitally this past March. This is another “traditional” layout I made to showcase just one photograph. This one showcases a fun picture of my oldest son and his quirky personality. The Kraft kit’s vibrant feel fit well with the photo and I used a template from Scrapping with Liz. I just love her templates! Here’s layout three:

“fab-u-lous”
Template: SO October Blog Template by Scrapping with Liz
Kit: Kraft by Becky Higgins Project Life

The fourth layout on my list features my oldest son. Do you see a theme here? I really enjoy scrapping photos of my children! This photo highlights how much my son loves dressing up in his pirate costume! This day was the “Pirate’s League” day which is where he gets his pirate makeup done, takes a pirate oath, receives a special sword and sash, then they go into the “secret room” where they receive a special treasure medallion. I can’t tell you how many people stop and stare at him when he’s all dressed up. He really gets into the pirate role, running around sword fighting imaginary bad guys and pretend sword fighting with other little kids on stage while waiting for the Captain Jack show across the way from “The Pirate’s League”. I thought this kit was perfect for this picture as there were plenty of elements that played on the “I’m a rockstar” theme:

“Pirate’s League”
Template: Sample Pack 9 by ChrissyW Digital
Kit: Believe In Me by Angie Kovacs

It was really, really hard to pick only five layout. It’s like trying to pick a favorite child but I did it. Pick five layouts, not a favorite child! The last layout to go on the list for today is one that I made just a week ago! I think the reason this one falls into my favorite category is the pictures. I’m drawn to black and white photographs right now and this layout is full of them. It shows my kids playing together in the rain. I’m excited that I could capture some pictures of them spending time together, happily! The large picture on the top left is my favorite of the layout, it just captures your attention! They are both amazingly expressive for only being two and five years old! Just look at those faces:

Well, that concludes this weeks Friday Faves! I hope you enjoyed your time here, I know I’ve really enjoyed everyone stopping by this week. I can’t wait to see you all again soon!BeeTreeSig-web
